Can I plug a Bosch HHF113BR0B oven into the kitchen circuit?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

Hi all, I just want to double check this before proceeding. I've recently bought a Bosch HHF113BR0B electrical oven to replace an old one (which was hardwired into a electrical cable on a separate circuit), this comes with a standard plug (13A), and I believe draws 10.43 amps for a power consumption of 2400 W. I was going to just plug this into the main kitchen circuit (the circuit breaker is rated for 32 A) but I just want to check if this is wise, as there are several other appliances running on that circuit, specifically a kettle, toaster, hotpoint washing machine, and hotpoint RFAA iced diamond freezer. Will I be able to run all of these items on the one kitchen circuit?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Chances are it will be fine but cooking appliances over 2 kw shouldn’t be plugged into a ring circuit as suggested in BS 7671. Ideally put it back into the dedicated cooker circuit Appendix 15 of BS 7671 gives advice on ring final circuits and sharing/spreading the load around the circuit. Item (iii) suggests that cookers, ovens and hobs over 2 kW should be on their own dedicated circuit. Not sure what you’re referencing Elec. Think it’s the big yellow book. We are 18th edition now

Hi Yes this should be ok, In the electrical world we have a thing called diversity, it basically is a rule that everything is likely to not be on at once. If you have a 32A ring main this should be fine in your Kitchen.

It will be fine. Just leave it as is. Its heating appliances that shouldn't be over 2kW on a socket circuit or any loads that can't have diversity applied. Ovens up to 3kW can have diversity allowed and won't pull full load, heaters will. Ovens over 3kW should always be on a separate circuit.

Power is 2400W so Current will be 10.5A. That means if you connect to the kitchen ring circuit (protected RCD/RCCD 30mA and MCB B32A) after fused sp.13A that's fine However, existing load has to be taken in to the consideration.
