Surging noise from Energy 18s boiler?!

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I’ve got an Glow Worm energy 18s boiler which is about 7 years old, went in as part of a house renovation with invented hot water cylinder etc. Gradually over time it started making this weird surging noise, when starting up also the first surge would seem to put out the flame so would often get F28. Struggling to get someone out for a week or so, but I have found that if I cover about 2/3 of the air intake pipe the problem is fixed and everything works perfectly. Is there a fan or something that pulls the air in that could be screwy?! Here’s a video of the fault https://vimeo.com/499153710. So as I say the fix is that I have covered 2/3 of the end of the air intake pipe with gaffer tape but clearly that’s a workaround!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sounds like your boiler needs a service and general cleaning. Can't be more fair than advise you. Would recommend - get yourself a heating engineer - plumber round to diagnose the issues as blocking off air intake may make the appliance work unsafe to a measure of use. Thanks pd

You need someone too look at this. You certainly can't block the flue as this could be dangerous. My advice is get someone too look at it for you. Regards. The integrity of your flue needs checking, it sounds like it's mixing. Possible flue seals damaged.

Without actually looking at it I can’t be sure but seems to be fan or pump noise. Definitely a bad idea to block air intake
