Damp Proofing

Mould on new skirting boards

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

We had our living room & dining room replastered in November 2020, we also had all new mdf skirting boards fitted afterwards... The plaster was bone dry, we also mist coated the plaster before painting it our desired colour. I have noticed today green furry mould growing on one of the skirting boards in the dining room. There is nothing against this wall, no furniture touching it. Behind this wall is the kitchen so it’s not a external wall either. We are baffled as the house had no damp prior to this, we only had the walls replastered to modernise the place/cover artex

The damp could be as a result of the plaster not having cured before painting, or the timber itself was damp before being painted. Mould can easily grow on timber skirting - trying spraying with a bleach to kill it

If the skirting boards weren’t kept in a dry environment then yes they can grow mold after fitting
