damp proof margin
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM
Hi , i am about to lay a small patio area with Indian sandstone slabs ,its for pedestrian use only , the ground is currently tarmac and has been there since the bungalow was built 20 + years , can I lay on top of this surface following the fall away from the building ? where the tarmac meets the wall it is two bricks below damp proof course level ( two bricks high ) do i need to break up a bricks width margin of tarmac to place gravel for drainage ? any info would be appreciated

As my knowledge of laying patios I would not go over any existing area specially specially tarmac!!!! And as of leaving a little gap for drainage yes all good and well but still would not go over existing patio!

Do not over lay on tarmac ! This will cause you problems.
Dig and break out tarmac and then install 100/150mm of MOT type 1 stone as a sub-base and lay slabs finished height two courses below damp coarse !
Also gravel strip is correct
