Remove pebble dash and restore or render over pebble dash?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

Hello, Please can someone assist as I have heard so much conflicting information. I have pebbledash at the front of my house. I either want to render or remove it and restore the bricks. To render over pebbledash, I've been told k-rend or a silicone render will work best as its breathable. However, others have said you shouldnt render over pebbledash as this will still prevent breathability (as PB isnt breathable). My pebble dash is even and in good condition. The K-rend person I speak with says its fine to go over - is this the case? Will I really face damp issues if I dont take off the pebble dash? Its a period property built late 1800s but very solid and well built. If I need to take the pebbledash off, I may as well restore the brickwork. Should I check the exterior walls inside for damp? This hasnt been decorated and has old peeling wallpaper so I can check. Thanks for any help or advice

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can render over pebble dash . Option 1 is to take pebble dash of but you risk damaging the brickwork underneath or option 2 The second method is to use the OCDC to completely smooth over and cover up the pebbledash to achieve a clean slate. This product is specifically designed to be applied on top of pebbledash, and it can then be painted or rendered to achieve a modern, updated appearance. The good thing about the One Coat Dash Cover is that it is breathable, so it will help any trapped moisture within the underlying pebbledash to escape. It can also be applied up to 20mm in one pass (up to a maximum of 50mm), so it’s gruaranteed to smooth over the pebbledash nicely

It’s not ideal but you can render over pebble dash although the existing render must be very stable, ideally remove it if you can.

Hi The penble dashing (rough cast) can be removed, If there is a brickwork facade it could be restored & 100 percent repointed This wiuld leave a breathable finish. Or a rendered finish in Lime render or sand, cement & lime. Regards Professional Stone/Brick Restoration Colin..
