Definition of 'DwellingHouse'
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.41 PM
I'm trying to clarify whether 'dwellinghouse' would include an attached garage built at the same time as the house. Obviously this would have an impact on determining what is 'half the width of the original dwellinghouse'. Any ideas ?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I guess you are looking at the possibility of extending your home by way of Permitted Development? If not can you please provide a little bit more information to help us provide you with an accurate answer.
An attached garage is considered part of the dwelling, being the building as a whole. If you are thinking of Permitted Development then the total built area should not exceed half the total area of land around the "original house". This also includes further additions or other buildings within the boundary.
Hopefully I have been able to answer your question. If not, please let us know.

I would say planning wise it is part of the dwelling even though you cannot live in the garage until its been converted to satisfied building regulations.
Hope this is some use to you. Cheers, Paul.
