Roof batten size

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

What sizes roof battens should be used on a complete re-felt/re-batten of a Victoria terraced house? I’ve previously been told minimum 2 x 1 (50mm x 25mm), but have had a quote including battens that are only 35mm x 25mm. Is this ok? Thanks

Hi there. It is wholly dependent on two factors. Firstly, the type and weight of the replacement tiles. Secondly, the width of spacing between the roof rafters. If you request what type of tiles are going to be used, you can easily look for yourself by a quick google of the tile manufacturers recommended guidance on installation.

personally will only use 2/1 although some tiles can be fitted with smaller batens it like everything else in the building trade some people will go for higher specs than required some will use the bare minimuim. you get what you pay for

Generally 25x38mm will be sufficent unless slates are being used when 25x50mm should be used.
