Engineered floor to cover small area in the middle, after stud wall removal
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM
As in title, the area is 15cm x under 2 meters to cover. Some people said they need to relay all floor i.e. I need to buy another several packs. Some people said I just need 1 pack. Who should I trust? In addition, can people specialise in laminate can automatically do the engineered floor? Or they are of different trade? Thanks.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Any competent Joiner or Carpenter should be able to solve this issue.
Depends on the floor as if it is cut on the ends or did the floor run parallel with the original stud wall? Either way it can be sorted. If the flooring is still available most engineered floors come in packs of 2sqM and are usually 1600mm - 2000mm in length so 1 pack is more than enough! Most common size width of boards are under your 150mm (15cm) so in theory on a couple of boards are needed. (as mentioned depending on your cuts and floor direction.)
Hope this helps somewhat.

James

You won’t be able to just fill in the gap. You’d need to take up a fair amount of the floor to access to area in question. The floor may well have shifted due to temperatures being hot and cold so I doubt any floor layer would guarantee the work after completion. Also depending on the age of the floor is a factor as the product in question may no longer be available. You’d probably be better off having a new floor installed as this would then give you piece of mind that the work and the new floor would have some kind of warranty/guarantee. Also the part you want added may be a different colour to the rest of the floor due to age/fade.If it was me I wouldn’t put my name to a job like that but I’m sure others would take it on. Hope this helps

If it was just a stud wall removed someone competent would be able to just patch it back in as long as you have the same product as originally fitted to go back in. As the new boards will be lighter no doubt than what has been laid for a few years you could sand and seal the whole area for a perfect finish.

There's no reason on why you shouldn't patch up the gap, but you will first have to find someone who is willing to undertake the work entirely at your own risk. The final appearance may not be acceptable and the durability of such a patch may not be as good as the rest of the floor. If the floor is glued down it will be it will be easier and more durable, however if its floating less successful as you will have to glue the pieces together, possibly having to remove parts of the joint. If the peices have been cut to fit you will have to remove more to enable a good fit, all in all you may be ruining the ship for an 'apporth of tar. Consult a professional sourced from Mybuilder who specialises in hardwood flooring including engineered flooring, a small fee for consultation may save you a lot of regrets.

It depends on many things as to how much needs replacing, no one could really advise you without seeing exactly what is require.
If some is a specialist in Laminate in theory they should be capable of fitting engineered wood as well

The right way would be to take a lot of it up to do it properly or you can just cut off the small lip on the short side and it should go in fine depends on the budget just explain it to the customer. Hope this helps.
