Bringing electrical sockets forward (from brick face through a soundproofed stud wall)

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

Hi there - currently soundproofing party walls, however some walls have sockets on them. I know, I know, move the sockets, or why build a soundproof wall, it's a long story! However - rather than move the sockets, is it ok to just bring the sockets forward through the new soundproofed wall (stud frame, rockwool insulation, plasterboard sandwich) using 47mm plasterboard back boxes? I'd allow for circulation and not suffocate any cables, as well as support noggins top and bottom of the boxes. It's the 3mm marginal gap from the rear of the back box to the original wall I'm concerned about; I wish I could post a picture here! I'm thinking it would be no different than if I had a stud wall with the cable running down it; in my case the existing wiring is set into plaster. Really appreciate your help :-) ----- **EDIT** After a wee mock-up, I realised as I'd be battening top and bottom of the existing wall sockets, might as well do the sides around too, closing that 3mm gap. I could then use a drylining box or a standard metal one, and even seal the edges with acoustic fire sealant (AC95)...thoughts still welcome!

Also acoustic pads are cheap to fit inside back box. Fit hundreds on stud party walls and always pass sound test

You can also getting sound proof putty that sits in the metal back box, Its even cut into shape so it folds in nice, Also fire-resistant. Hope that helps
