Soundproof dot and dab plasterboard

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

Hello, I recently had my home renovated and the builder used dot and dab plasterboard on the party wall - however, they are not very soundproof. You can hear the neighbours in their living room talking etc. Is there any way of making the wall more soundproof without having to take down the plasterboard and put on acoustic plasterboard one etc? Is there anything that will involve something simple like drilling holes into the plasterboard and filling the gap with the brick wall with some sort of sound proof foam etc? Any advice and tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks

You could possibly dab a sound proof board over the top of that so it’s double they done always work like they should tbf but you could try it that way if it’s just one wall

Soundproof plasterboards unfortunately arent soundproof! If you dont mind losing 100mm off your wall, you could opt for a stud partition filled with 100mm of Rockwool, which is then plasterboarded and skimmed over. Its also worth your neighbours doing the same if they can hear you too. If the building is a concrete shell, you will still hear noise as sound travels very well through concrete.
