Damages caused by Velux installation that all walls need to be painted
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM
The tradesmen need to put a tower scaffolding on the middle landing of a U-shape staircase to install the Velux. But it left too many notches and indents. The implication of painting all walls was never discussed with me until the building team's decorator came, when he said that he could not match the colour of the paint, so the patch up paint wouldn't be good enough and he thinks I should paint all walls - i.e. 3 walls plus 2 areas of ceiling (above stairwell and the landing). I think similar issues must be a common issue in renovation work. How do people normally deal with it? Many thanks.

If there is any decorating work needed to be done caused by the works carried out then this should always be discussed with the client before the work commences and provide a cost for doing the decorating work. If marks were made by their work then they should cover the cost of the decorating, particularly if they had not mentioned this to you before hand. They should have anticipated these marks would be made or if not taken more care not to cause them in the first place then. We would always suggest painting the walls fully as touching in never leaves a good finish.
