Smoke alarm going off every time I reconnect it

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

Hello, My smoke alarm system went off this morning thanks to some smoke from the oven. I tried to stop it by pressing the 'Test & Hush' button on the alarm in the kitchen, but it didn't seem to work, so I removed the alarm from its bracket to stop it. I realise now I should have disconnected the mains supply to it first, and have also realised that that particular alarm in the system is a heat alarm (Aico Ei144) whereas the others are smoke alarms (Aico Ei141) - so presumably the alarm that detected the smoke was the not the one in the kitchen. Now, every time I reconnect the heat alarm in the kitchen to its bracket, it goes off - and I can't find any way to stop it. I've tried pressing the button, holding the button for 20 seconds, disconnecting the mains supply and changing the battery, changing the battery in the nearest smoke alarm... Can anyone offer any any advice or see what I'm doing wrong? Thank you very much in advance, Joe

You've possibly damaged it taking it off the ceiling. Did you pull it or did you insert a screwdriver in the release slot and slide it off? You may have damaged the base ,too.

Hi Joe, You may have a faulty detector, I would suggest contacting your local electrician who is familiar with the Aico range of detectors & hopefully sort out your problem

Good evening Joe, There could be a few thing what’s causing it to go off when reconnecting back up. Have you tried cleaning the detector out and also made sure the battery is connected properly? Also it could be a faulty detector so I would suggest you contact an electrician who can source and replace the AICO alarm for you

I would just replace they aren't very expensive, you dont even have to replace the base purely the Heat Detector if it a like for like replacement, the base is basically a connector block all the magic happens in the Detector itself:) You can even do this yourself as there is no wiring needed.
