Replacing 2 strips of thick painted wallpaper

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM

Hi When we blocked a ‘hatch’ through way from the kitchen to the dining room I did not do a good job of disguising this. Do you think I could replace 2 widths of thick painted wallpaper without making a mess of it.?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

yes, if you manage to achieve a seem-less finish and match depth, pattern, colour etc

make sure you cut down the existing joints with a stanley knife and straight edge, giving you a good edge to but up to, then 3-4 coats to build up .

a better job would be to scrim tape the edges(presuming hatch was blocked up with plasterboard) then skim area. make sure you cut back surrounding paper and use PVA to seal

To be quite honest I would strip back the paper and start again as if you try and make good what you have already done it most properly won’t look that good and you will be kicking yourself. Good luck

I would remove the paper and start from scratch again. The finish over the top of the paper won't be any good and long term you'll be wishing you just spent the extra bit of time to ensure the job is good for the long run rather than looks okay for the day or so. Always best to do it properly once, than to do it several times.
