Repairing a block wall built directly onto floor boards?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.56 PM

Repairing some water damage prior to a bathroom refit, found the dividing wall built from concrete blocks is built directly only the old floor boards, which have started to rot away at one end, causing a couple of the blocks to be poorly supported and crack. There is a joist directly under the wall, but the old floor booths are sandwiched between the two. Can i pull the old rotten board out and replace with some cls timber and refit the damaged blocks, or will I need to rebuild the whole wall?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Usually block work If upstairs should carry on from below .or you’d just stud it out ? Ground floor you’d need a footing put it ..

If the wall is upstairs I would take it down and revuild in studwork, it sounds slightly dangerous to me having concrete block wall sat on timber

Block walks should always be built on a good foundation... Depending how many blocks are built on top of these floorboards will determine the weight we're dealing with Weight is distributed on a 45 degree angle so depends on the length of rotten board if you need support for the wall or not
