Ok to knock out the walls? Not sure!

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.56 PM

Any advice would be gratefully received. We own an old 1950 council house and the kitchen is very small. We are wanting to knock through to the joining toilet and storage extension to make a large kitchen. I’m not sure if the two walls for the toilet and storage cupboard are load bearing. The walls are single skin brick but there are is concrete at the top running the full length of the walls.? The roof is also concrete. Can we knock the walls down or not? Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

Hi, Probably best to get a builder round to take a look. May well be load bearing or at least supporting Floor joists. If a steel is needed then always advisable to consult a structural engineer to get the correct sizes. Hope this helps.
