Loft Flooring Attached to Roof Trusses

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.56 PM

Hi, I have just had a loft flooring company complete 10m^2 of loft flooring. The company has used 2x4 sections of wood screwed to the roof trusses at each end. The floor boards have been screwed on top so that the floor is floating above the insulation which is 270mm deep. They have screwed plastic stilts with a section of wood down the centre of the flooring attached to the roof joists. So the majority of the load will be going through the roof trusses and a point load at the centre where it is attached to the roof joist. Can anyone offer some advice on attached any load to the roof trusses? I don’t believe this is safe and I was expecting the flooring load to be spread evenly across the roof joist.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes that is fine as that’s where the load is supported by the timber going to the ridge. Do not overload the flooring.

Thats a standard way to board but allowing more insulation to be installed. However there is a maximum of 50kg per square metre, so do not overload floor also try to keep items stored to the outer edge of the flooring. As that is where the load is most strongest.
