I think your referring to moss? Different roof covers attract more or less moss growth, concrete being the worse natural slate being one of the better ones. As with anything with mother nature if you choice to fight it, you will be fighting an up hill losing battle and will sink a small fortune into doing so. My advice leave it alone save your money on something else, your have the moss scrapped off and within 3 years it will be back again, you can get moss treatment to help slow the growth but it needs reapplying every few years and even then it will still grown back. You can install strips of lead or copper under the ridge tiles leaving it slightly expose and the natural chemicals that comes off the metal when it rains will kill the moss growth but then you get strained streaky roof. I’d only advice strapping moss off of you have a serious damp issue, and you have exhausted all other methods to stop the damp and improved air flow into the roof etc. Long term moss will do damage but we’re talking decades to notice it, short term it is just annoying as it makes the roof look messy and causes a mess below when it falls off in windy weather. Moss can successfully removed by hand not pressure washing and treated with a good quality moss treatment yes it will return but if treated every 3 to four years it should stay away pressure washing will increase the porous element in the tiles so should be avoided we clean roofs professionaly
