Stain block showing through silk emulsion
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.38 PM
Hi there, I used vaspar stain block primer & undercoat on an area of my wall however I can see this area now shining through my silk emulsion. The emulsion is dark green, so I am hoping that with a few extra coats it will cover the stain block? Would I need to do more coats to the whole wall or can I blend it into the dried area surrounding the stain block area?

give the area stained 3-4 coats lightly sand then coat the whole wall (area) with a final coat.

I would suggest painting the whole wall with matt emulsion followed by two coats of the silk emulsion. The pigment in matt is more dense than in emulsion, i.e. more 'solid' and using my method will give a better result. In the same way, you could try blending in but it's unlikely you'll be happy with the finish.

For a more professional finish and to cover properly you will have to paint the whole wall as well

I would suggest you have used an insufficient product. The best product i have found at blocking stains is either zinsser bin (shellac based) or zinsser coverstain depending what stain you have. Both product are quick drying and oil based which will block the stain then paint with your chosen emulsion. You may need to paint the whole wall so it blends in.
