Insulation

insulation plaster boards

Hi Guys. I have a few questions regarding insulated plaster boards. im planning on renovating my 1950s house. I wanted to put insulated plaster boards on all the walls. I'm concerned about the thickness of the boards. 1. Shall I take the old redor off, take it back to the bricks and put the boards on. 2. Shall I put the boards on top of the old plaster which would make the walls thicker, what do I door around the door architrave? 3.I live in semi detached house, Shall I put the boards up on all 4 walls of every room or only the 3 walls in the house facing the outside. is there any boards you guys recommend. thanks

Hi. I would never apply new plasterboard of any kind on top of the existing old render as they trap humidity and will cause damp issues and structural damage to the bricks subsequently. Strip back to the bricks, then either use insulated plasterboard, or use MF systems and normal plasterboard with foil back which enables you to put earthwool insulation right behind them, for a thinner finish and highly cost effective and thermally efficient too. Also consider insulating the floor space between the joists, that's where you lose heat significantly as heat rises vertically through convection current, and only side way through the walls by radiation. Good luck 👍 James
