Can gate post be fixed if its come out of the ground

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

Small wooden gate, post has been getting looser and looser. Now not held in place at all, can easily lift the post out of the ground. Can this be refined or new gate needed?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You’ll have to unscrew the gate, dig out the old concrete and reset the post with new concrete (provided the post isn’t rotten)

It just needs the old concrete digging out and to be re-set in fresh concrete , however it may be worth replacing the post depending on its age whilst this is being done anyway

The old concrete needs to be removed and either the old post or prefereavly a new post re-cemented in place. If the post is damaged or rotten, it will need replacing. I would recommend replacing the post before refitting whilst the post is out.

Replacing or resetting a gate post can be a bit daunting for homeowners as the gate will need re hanging and aligning but Installing a concrete spur is sometimes a good option, simple, cost effective and easy with the right tools. Thanks, Sam

The old concrete needs to be removed and either the old post or preferably a new post re-cemented in place. If the post is damaged or rotten, it will need replacing. I would recommend replacing the post before refitting whilst the post is out, and then realign and hang the gate, but I would also look down the route of putting a concrete spur there aswell for a bit of extra support.
