Is it possible to wire a light straight to the mains without a switch?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.38 PM
I'm trying to create a light for a dartboard with a bulb in a batten holder, it's just above a plug socket so would it be possible to wire this without a switch control, and just plug in and switch on/off at the mains? Thank you in advance SORRY - can't work how to reply, but these replies are excellent and super super useful, it's for a domestic premises so to go down that route would be brilliant, thank you very much indeed!

A more practical solution would be to use the socket as a supply for the lamp and simply add a switched fused spur next to the socket and wire the lamp off that. Then it can be switched on and off. Simple.

Is this in a commercial environment? I wouldn't play around with electrics. I mean consider the external influences! Darts flying about, drinks spilling etc. As it's a business premesis I would 100% say get a qualified electrician in who can provide a certificate. They might notice other things whilst they are there as well. If you really want a light I'd suggest a plug in lamp? Fixed wiring is for electricians only!
If its for home I'd say the same. A plug in, clip on lamp.
