Drops drips from my chimney during the heavy rain.

Hi,
In the past weeks when is been heavy raining randomly I went in my lof to pick some stuff and I noticed that I have drops of water coming from my chimney and in another place. I've managed to put some pots across the two leaks and over 24h I collected around a litre of water. Once the bad raining has stopped the dripping has stopped too. Now I'm checking every couple of days any is all dry although is raining almost every day.
Is definitely something that needs fixing but does need the roof to be changed?
If can be fixed is going to be expensive? Needs all the tiles to the taken off and then put back in? Or can be found the source and fix it without taking apart all the tiles.
Thanks in advance,
Ion C.
Thanks in advance
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
It depends, you probably got a slipped tile/slate that needs putting back in or the flashings round the chimney needs attention, you won't have to strip the entire roof off although some old houses have slate roofs with no felt (second barrier) then you might wanna think about a new roof because if you had felt and a tile slipped it would still be water tight so if your house is relatively new it would be the flashing
Depends could need new lead flashing or just broken tiles

Hi ion, If the leak is only happening when heavy rain it could possibly be the lead flashing around the chimney or your chimney could need repointing, The tiles shouldn't need replacing
Thanks kane
If the drips are coming in around the chimney only then that can be fix and hopefully you will not need the whole roof doing but but good to check over the whole roof , to have chimney repair is not a expensive job but will need a site visit hope this answer you question
Hi Ion
There could be several things wrong that is causing the leak to the stack :
Either the top of the stack itself is open and needs a chimney pot and also requires new mortar flaunching over the top to seal the stack.
It may need re-pointing between the joints of the brickwork, plus it may require
new lead flashings around the base of the stack and behind.
I couldn't say if the actual roof coverings need replacing without seeing them at close hand.

Hi sounds like just an issue with the stack if there is no other leaks then shouldn't need a new roof there can be a number of factors thou have your leadwork checked flaunching checked pointing checked and also make sure there is a drip edge around the chimney

Without looking at the roof it is hard for anybody to comment, it is likely just the chimney flashing which can be fairly expensive depending on the size of the chimney and it scaffolding is needed to access the area safely.
I’d advice posting a job lead on here so a local roofer can come out and diagnose and quote to repair the issue.

Generally the leaks can be fixed without having to take off the roof. It all depends on the condition of the roof but most probably the leaks are coming thru an area that can be fixed without a whole new roof. Get a couple of quotes and they will be able to identify the problem and assess your roof at same time . Get as many quotes as you can so you can choose the best price for yourself
It’s most probably the lead flashing around the chimney. It may have perished over the years, cracked and worn thin therefore water gets in and finds its way through.
Chimney flashing replacements usually required scaffolding plus the work
