Do I need RSJ for flat roof to be used for roof terrace

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I've got a flat roof garage with a decked terrace on top of it. I've started to renovate the interior only to find the cold roof as damaged the roof boards. I'm going to replace the roof and extend the extension to the front if my house. This will give me an 8 metre by 3 metre building.Do I need to put load bearing RSJs across the 3 metre span and if so what size . It will not be holding up my house only supporting the weight of the roof and people walking on it.Any help much appreciated

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi yes I would install an rsj for what it would cost. And a 3metre span a 100 mm /150 mm beam should be sufficient I would of thought. But if I was doing the job I would get in touch with my architect to calculate the size.
