Can I connect a dryer and an extension cable to a double socket?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

The double socket I'd like has to be run from the nearest socket I think?(which is in the hallway a couple of metres away. After adding a double socket in another room can I connect a dryer an extension cord to that. Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Best bet.... get an electrician in. For instance why would you install a twin socket to plug an extension lead into it? How do you know the socket you are running it off is all ok to do so? Etc, etc.

Yes in theory. Remember any electrical work you have done should have a certificate to demonstrate it's been done correctly.

If it has a plug on it then it’s designed to be plugged into any correctly installed socket outlet....a correctly installed double socket outlet is designed to have two things plugged into it.

I do agree that you should get a qualified ( Part P) electrician to review this work as you may be breaking the law if you do this yourself. you're only allowed to "spur off" existing supplies in certain circumstances. It may also need notifying to the local Authority. Get a couple of Electricians to give you a quote, they are normally free of charge.
