Is it normal when moving out a washing machine fir the vinyl to lift?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I’m a bit concerned as I moved out the washing machine a couple of days ago and noticed the vinyl flooring had lifted and bunched up a bit... I only had the flooring done in September. So my concern is that the job wasn’t done properly as I didn’t have this problem with the previous vinyl flooring...Should I have to pay for someone else to fix this or should this be done for free by the tradesmen that originally did this from check a trade? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This should be stuck down with adhesive to stop it from lifting, I would get in contact with the tradesmen and as them to rectify free of charge. Hope that helps

It should of been stuck down with a strong adhesive because if it is a soft vinyl the legs on the washing machine can squash it and then cause it to crease wen you pull the machine out bad workmanship I’m afraid to say

I do agree with the previous answer but the thing is a washing machine is heavy and depending on the quality of the vinyl to sustain a moving action can make the difference, if the floor underneath would have been vacuumed and dusted well before glueing it should be all right though, also before moving/shifting on vinyl l would put some vaseline in front or under the leg buttons or stands when possible

This can happen even when adhesive is used. Because of the weight of the appliance over time it will sink slightly into the vinyl. It's always best to try and lift and pull initially to get it out of the divers created. Little tip is a squirt of washing up liquid to slide it in and out to. You can try and ask the installer, which should be able to assist but it's one of the inherent hazards of differing vinyl quality.
