What type of roof do I have and what are these beams across the loft space?

What type of roof do I have and what are these beams across the loft space? I have some pics but not sure how I can post them on a question. I will try to explain in a plainsman way! I am sure it’s a truss roof type but I’ve been told it isn’t. There are beams that go vertically and horizontally from the floor joints to the roof top and wooden beams across from one side to the other that are about belly height when you stand next to them in the loft. There are some diagonal ones as well but these aren’t really a problem so I want to avoid asking about these as such. I’m getting an office put in there and the floor is being installed to support weight structure. A double socket and light is also being put up there and then a roof window and new bigger loft latch and wooden pullout ladder installed. The guy who’s been up there and already had a look reckons the horizontal beams can be removed and he wobbled them about and said there were doing absolutely nothing. He’s said only the horizontal beams will be taken out and he said he wouldn’t take any other beams out and from my plainsman office thinking point of view makes sense to me as it means I can get up there easily and work from there each day. I’m raising the question on here for other opinions I suppose and if I can upload pictures to show you I think it would make it easier. Thanks in advance! JB

Hi. If it’s the horizontal timbers that go from one side of the roof to the other it should be fine to remove them. They are sometimes put in to stop the roof potentially spreading but are not used in all roofs so are usually just builder depending. I imagine whoever you had round shook them to see if there was any tension.

Sounds like a TDA roof - have a google search of TDA trusses. Removing any of the timbers requires careful planning and possibly timber calculations from a structural engineer. New supports need to be introduced before anything is removed.
