Potential artex with asbestos behind painted wallpaper
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.18 PM
Is it safe to use a steamer to remove old painted wallpaper which may be on top of artex (containing asbestos)? We've had the ceiling stripped and the removal people have said that it may be behind the wall too.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

“Artex” The brand name I believe doesn’t contain asbestos but how would you know? If it’s wet it will help keep the fibres intact and not airborne .
Relevant safety equipment should be worn ( mask Google’s etc)
All waste should be double bagged.
If in doubt contact you’re local council or asbestos removal company to do a test. Last time we had one done it was about £50. Hope this helps

You must not disturb anything that you think or might contain asbestos it highly dangerous and only a certain trained professional in that field can remove and dispose of that material

Try not to disturb the artex , you must get it tested before you do anything.

If the Artex was done before 1985, it will contain asbestos. Professional advice on its removal should be acquired from a licensed remover. Your health is too important to risk by removing it yourself.
Hope this helps
