Cracked Drain on neighboring property

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.18 PM

Dear Tradesmen, we had a prepurchase CCTV drain survey done on a 18th century listed property. Various defects (grade 3 and 4) were found. There is a section of cracked sewer drain which is located 6.38m Downstream of our manhole. This section is off property. My concern is that should this part of the sewer collapse it will affect our property. Am I right to be concerned about this? Best wishes Julia Thank you, D&R Yes,I am currently in the process of establishing whose responsibility this section of the sewer drain is and it is definitely the foul water sewer. The reason I am posting this question here is to ask if I should even bother about this issues as it is NOT on my property. I am thinking that I shall be impacted if eventually the drain collapses as wastewater from my property in that case cannot run to the Main. Is this correct? If so, then although this part of the sewer is not my responsibility I will still need to see that this part of the sewer can be rehabilitated. I know collapse is not imminent, but it definitely will be better to fix the crack with patchbox rather than wait until the drain is collapsed and requires excavation. Thanks, Julia

first you must ascertain weather it is classed as a drain or sewer ?, and on whose property it is ?, just because it is cracked does not mean it is in immanent danger of collapse, once you know whose responsibility it is to maintain it ,you can then procced to rectify it.
