Cold spot in corner of bedroom ceiling
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.18 PM
I have noticed cold spots in the corners of my bedrooms and black mould is started to grow I'm thinking from condensation, as I have been in the loft and everything seems dry with no obvious leaks.would adding more insulation in the loft cure the problem?

Hello. Rule of thumb.... if it’s black mould it’s condensation if it’s brown stains it’s water ingress.. A lot of it is to do with circulation of air or the lack of it and also over insulation. Depends on the age and structure of the property. Over 40 years we have had to fit air grates into bedrooms with this issue. Problem is soon as it gets cold people cover them up.Good ventilation and heat is the best cure after cleaning away the mould.

It could also be a leak caused by worn out or eroded under felt,

if it's a external wall it could be that the brickwork needs pointing up .

I'd lift the insulation and see if theres a void..
Theres a gap each end so you have air circulation
Check your roof tiles .
Any piping water tanks.
Check your gutters are clear
