Can I leave shower pipes unplastered over in brick wall?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.18 PM

I am installing a shower cubicle myself after being ripped off by a plumber last week. I chiseled the space for the pipes in the wall and will be putting a shower wall over it so do I need to plaster it over first or can I just glue the shower wall over that wall? The space is narrow and I am using 15mm copper or plastic pipes. Thanks Yan

Hi there Installation of pipes in a wall should in an ideal world soldered coppper Definitely don’t use any compression fittings within the void Plastering over the pipes will stop them from coming loose and causing nuisance noise later down the line

Hi I would still recommend plastering or fill the pipes in. It will keep them secure, it is not recommended to have any joints if at all possible behind the shower wall. Before you fill or plaster in the pipes be sure to cover them with tape to prevent corrosion that could possibly happen if the cement or plaster is exposed to bare copper pipes. Copper is the best option to use but make sure is protected.

Either way would recommend not leaving or using any type of mechanical fitting behind walls.. Why not assist another plumber to clarify ON your part you aren't most certain about and hopefully won't be wasting more time than tbe job is worth in your part. Really hope this helps.
