Damp stains on chipboard loft flooring

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi is it normal for loft boards that have been previously cleaned with a small amount of water to look pretty much dry when they are dried out and then a little while later look damp again but they’re not actually damp it’s like it’s a stain coming back through? Thank you for your help

Have you checked for any holes in roof tiles? A good test is to look into the attic during sunlight with the lights off to see if there is any light coming through. If you can see light coming through, you’ll most likely be getting water through the roof causing the boards to get wet for a few days every time it rains. All the best, Paul.

Hello. Could be ingress of water through roof tiles especially if you have no breathable membrane Turn light out to see if you can see day light also any damp on the rafters. It could also be condensation droplets through over insulation and possibly down to problems with composite tiles.? Hope this helps.
