Central Heating

Removal / moving of heating pipes

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hi, unsure on who to direct this question at central heating / plumbing etc. So I’ve moved in to a new house, right by the front door in the corner there is a wooden box from the ceiling to the floor. The box houses 2 copper pipes which run direct in to the heater by the door. I was wondering if there was a way of covering this box or even better , moving the copper pipes else where. It seems as though the pipes were ran down the side of the wall as a quick fix and we’re hidden in the box which looks terrible ( the wall is not stud, it’s the end of the house) thank you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If its a stone/brick wall then the wall can be chased (a channel cut into the wall) and the pipes can then be run down the channel and the channel filled in.

Everyone have different taste when it comes to installing pipework, so I think it could positioned neatly coming down in the corner and even paint it to blend in nicely with the colour of the home. The heater again must be protected but you can always change the look of the space where the heater is, look for empty space you are not using up. Hope this helps.

Without seeing it it’s difficult to give an ideal solution but some how your heating pipes need to get upstairs. They’re likely to be 22mm in diameter so chasing them into the wall would be difficult - you probably need to find an alternative route. You really need to find a location where you can box them in and make it look like the wall.
