Pipes making sound like ball hitting floor and rolling

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.35 PM

The pipes in our bedroom, or possibly even radiator, randomly make an annoying sound like a marble hitting the floor and bouncing a few times. It normally makes this sound when the heating comes on, but also does sometimes happen very early morning, from around 3am onwards. Any ideas what it might be?

When the pipes expand and contract, sometimes the holes the pipes are passing through and not big enough so they rub against the floor or ceiling joist. Also it can be that the pipes do not have enough support and therefore will shake and move easily causing those noises.hope this helps.

Sounds like the heating pioes havent been clipped correctly and are possible rubbing on something when expanding and contracting when heating and cooling. Can happen more with plastic pipe and if pipes have been routed through holes drilled in floor or ceiling joists.

It could either be pipes needs lagging between joists or fault TRV valve
