Does the lintel above this door need replacing
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.35 PM
I have noticed that the bricks above my garden UPVC doors are slightly sagging (late 1950s home) and seem to be pushing down on the UPVC strip, the door opens and closes fine, and seems to be otherwise straight. Can you advise if this is a lintel issue

Most 1950 house had internal concrete boot lintels that had brick ties to hold the external bricks, these fail over time, you would only need to fit an external lintel to support the brick, so no need to replace the existing lintel just adding an external.

I would definitely recommend getting a builder to have a look. Even if the frame is supporting the bricks so they won’t drop anymore you’ll probably have cracks in the pointing which could lead to water ingress
