Thumb Turn Lock Push and Turn - Stuck cant Push
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.35 PM
I have a front door, relatively new, about 2 years old. It has a thumb turn on the inside, to operate you must push it in and then turn it. It keeps getting stuck so it can’t be pushed in. I’ll add the from the outside using the key, the lock operates very smoothly. Is this an easy fix or would I likely need a new lock? Does the lock/door usually come with a warranty?

Best option, new lock and genuinely you should have a 1year warranty.

Sounds like you will need a new thumb turn cylinder. There are a couple of other reasons but without inspecting the lock, it would be hard to diagnose.

Sounds like the issue could be that one or more of the chambers that houses the pins is causing the issue but it could also be a number of other issues. I would contact the door company as it should be under warranty

It would be better just to replace it for your security. Imagine a fire in the house and your lock sticks.
It’s possible to change the thumb turn, but then you would need either the tools, spare parts and knowledge to DIY.
You could have a locksmith do this for you, but again, the parts would need to be sourced (there are different sizes) and the cost of labour.
I would charge my standard rate of £50 plus £35 for the lock.
£85 for peace of mind.
