Chimney breast removal

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.56 PM

We are currently having the chimney breast removed, we were quoted a price which we accepted which included removal of breast over 2 floors, waste exposed of, plastering of exposed areas, replacement of floorboards between kitchen and bedroom and roughly 3 days to do this. They have currently done a day and a half on the job and have removed the bedroom chimney breast. They are now saying it will need another two days of labour another skip due to the flue being full of bricks when the chimney stack was removed and an extra payment for this, so making this job 5 days instead of 3. They also left the job on Friday not covering the exposed hole between kitchen and bedroom so in my head that is a health and safety issue. They also did not put any protection down on the carpets before they started the work. The carpet in the bedroom is now ruined and the stairs carpet is going to need a professional clean. Am I entitled to ask for the work to be done at the price they quoted and for them to work the quoted days before they demand any more at which point a discussion would be had?

Hello tom here you are in full rights to ask what exactly you are paying extra for , when doing all building work you do encounter unforeseen problems as it’s best to have a contingency fund they should of spoken of this matter before hand if there has generally been extra work that has come to light of an unseen problem then they should say straightaway and explained and come to a conclusion with yourself , regarding the carpets they should of been protected unless you stated they were being removed then they should clean them in there own time or come to an arrangement sorry to hear of your problems I really do hope you get it sorted many thanks tom if there’s anything else please ask
