Old Potterton Kingfisher II gas usage

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.56 PM

We have an old Potterton Kingfisher II boiler (soon to be replaced), yet wondered if whether it uses the same amount of gas irrespective of whether central heating and hot water are on? For example, if we’re heating the house, does the boiler use any more gas to heat the water too? If not, we should be heating the water whenever the central heating is on, rather than heating water only the following morning?

Good Morning - yes this type of boiler will use the same amount of gas when it is on. It does not modulate the gas - it is either on or off. The appliance is range rateable i.e the KW usage can be set by a professional and that will reduce the rate that gas is consumed, but not necessarily mean cheaper bills. Your current appliance will be between 65% and 75% efficient and a new boiler will be 85% to 92%. These new appliance modulate and use different amounts of gas dependent on demand.
