Hidden leak now and then from bathroom above

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.55 PM

Hello, we have a small leak that's happening now and then, sometimes when shower is on but not always, it's coming from the bathroom above and dripping from the ceiling in the cupboard under the stairs below. We had a similar leak recently, that was dripping into the kitchen (the other side of the cupboard wall). A plumber came out and found that the connection where the old electric shower (that's broken) took its water supply under the bath was leaking, and he sealed that off. The side of the bath is still off, so with this new leak we were looking to see any water leak and everything there is fine. The new shower isn't electric and is connected to the kitchen sink. The issue seems to be occasionally when either the shower or sink is used. We think it must be the pipe further down under the floor boards. Would we need a specialist to work out where the leak is coming from? Should we pull up a few floor tiles in the bathroom to see if we can find the source of the leak? Any advice would be very appreciated! Thank you, Helen

Sounds like it’s a drain. If it only appears when water goes in the sink or shower. The pipes supplying the taps and shower will always have water in them so would always be leaking if it was them. If the leak is only after using, it must be in a drain as it is the only place that has water during and after use but not before.
