Decorators caulk cracking

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.55 PM

Hello, Yesterday I caulked my coving with Soudal acrylic caulk, went to bed, and this morning I wake up to find cracks and splits along the beads; I haven't painted at all yet and there have been no crazy temperature changes in the room. I can't work out why this has happened. Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Out of all the caulks ive used i found soudal to be the worst so im not surprised. High shrinkage has caused your problems. Go over it again with a good quality caulk. 'Caulk once' is very good for minimal shrinkage

Polyfilla chalk I found best but allow to cure over night before painting

All caulks sink and crack. Especially the cheaper ones. Caulk twice paint twice job done

It all depends on how deep the cap is also when we have come across a similar problem I have sealed with oil based paint
