Integrated freezer used as a freestanding unit Experts please help!

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.55 PM

Hi I have a integrated freezer that I’m using as a stopgap at present. It is not in housing and not against a wall so the area is flowing freely around it. My concern is that the motor may get dusty. Do I need to put it in a temporary housing? Also, I have a Hotpoint fridge freezer fully integrated and the fridge struggles to keep the temperature in the hot weather. Is there anything I can do to make it more efficient? I understand over filling it can be a problem. Thank you very much in advance for your advice .

Not having a housing just as temporary want be an issue with dust , it may be better as its not locked in by cupboards to just collect and settle . Maybe on the bottom plinth you could install a small grill /vent to draw new air in and circulate to keep the electrics cooler

The way fridges and freezers work is through absorbing heat on the inside and expelling it on the outside. They do this with a compressor, some fluid and some pipes. They are all pretty robust parts and will not be harmed by a little dust. The best way to get the temperature down is to ventilate it, the heat it absorbs from the inside needs to be released on the outside. Removing it from the cupboard is ideal, if that is not possible there may be a way to get more air flowing under kick boards. The issue with the stop gap may be the legs being made of flimsy plastic and the door may scrape on the floor. You may also have exposed metal, with which it would be essential you have RCDs in your fusebox and that it is properly earthed.

All integrated appliances should have a plinth vent as a fire risk if not as they can overheat
