Rewiring done but boiler and cooker are not working

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

We have paid for rewiring of loft for electrician found on this page. Next day we have found out that boiler stopped working and also socket next to it. Electrician came few hours later and "fixed" the issue. He told me to check sockets is everything us working and everything was working, just I didn't look at cooker. Today we realised that cooker is not working and also boiler stopped working. I called him and I was told he will charge me for cable that he cut because it is probably the cable that connected with boiler. Now we have to use electric heater to survive the night when it's 3 degrees outside. We also haven't received any kind of certificate. To summarise he repaired boiler and socket next to it but on next day (today) it has stopped working again. I pushed fuses back to make sure its not about loose fuses but it didn't help. He will come tomorrow but I need your advice in regards to certificate and if I am responsible to pay additional costs.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I think you need to get another electrician and send him the bill. This all sounds abit off to me. There isn’t much that can go wrong with this sort of stuff. If he is an electrician this shouldn’t happen. He shouldn’t have considered the job complete until it had all been tested, that includes functionality as well as electrical tests.

Dear Sir, if you hired him to do any re-wiring, it is responsibility to make sure everything is working after the work has been done and also he should provide you with a certificate to say everything is good, you should not have to pay any extra, if he has cut or disconnected any wires, then it's responsibility to correct the problem, I hope this answers your question and helped

On rewiring a property you should issue an electrical installation certificate and Part P registration with building control. The certification shows that the installation complied with BS7671 2018 wiring regulations and that it has been inspected and tested and the results recorded on the certificate.

Hi There, Seems like you have had a dodgy electrician around to do your work. You should have had a certificate issued for the work completed and any reliable electrician would likely fix any work that they have completed or in your case,... 'wires cut by accident'. It's the electricians job to ensure that all circuits are 'functionally working' at the end of the job and not yours. My advise would be to pay for the work completed and have another spark come out to fix the work. You should also have the old electrician produce the certificate which they MUST complete.
