Decking Boards Quality
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM
My builder has left decking boards at my place prior to laying some new decking at the front of the house. However, I have noticed that there are dark green and brown stains on most of the wood. Where there are dark brown stains some of the wood has flaked away and now has holes in the wood. Its not powdery but hard and flaky. Wondering if this is some kind of rot of just poor quality wood? As the decking hasn't been laid yet don't want to start off with any issues. Appreciate any advice Thank you.

its seems to be that the boards have been left for some time and beginning to rot so its probably a good idea not to use them as It could call s really bard issues
or and accident could happen

Sometimes wood is ordered in bulk and that means that the wood has not been checked by the person doing the job.
If you are not happy with those boards, just ask the person doing the job not to use them if possible or ask for them to be swapped.
It does happen on some jobs, but most suppliers are happy to swap out bad timber if there is some. Your worker should not be upset if you ask for the bad bits to be swapped out unless they have quoted for the job on cheap timber to win the contract.
If this is the case, be prepared to pay a little extra for better quality timber.

Definitely you don’t whant to start with this boards! Maybe the wood was not treated properly and you will have problems with your deck later. I think it’s a poor quality boards if they look like this in such a short time. Your deck should last at least 15 to 20 years if you use proper wood!
