wall corner showing metal bead - how to repair and paint over

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

part of a wall corner is showing some metal bead, not full part, just some, but can see clearly on the otherwise white walls nearby. The water based emulsion paint does not seem to grab on the metal surface and no matter how many times I paint it over, the metal is still showing through the paint. saw someone said to use an oil based primer for the metal (suspect to be galvanised corner bead) but then can you paint it over using water based emulsion paint? I had called Dulux, one rep says to use Metalshield quickdry primer on the metal another says the former rep is wrong and that I should re-skim the whole wall and recommends the Polycell Finishing Skim (which I tried locally and didn't grap on to the metal either). Not sure what to do now, would metal primer work? otherwise all painted surfaces (minus the metal showing part).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If there is no cracks around the area of the bead then no filling etc needed so dust off the area and I apply a coat of oil based gloss when dry apply emulsion to this area build up paint to cover beads then apply the final coat a small rad roller will apply a stipples finish to blend in better.

Hi You can have a experience decorator skim over the exposed corner bead with joint cement, allow to dry properly then sand and paint.

Give it a paint with oil based undercoat (white to make life easy for yourself)....leave 24 hours and apply the emulsion. Don't use oil based gloss.... Your emulsion won't stick to it.

Best way is to use any OIL based undercoat . Paint it all over give it time to dry thoroughly then repaint with the emulsion. Might have to cost it twice.
