Leaking radiator
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
I have a slow leak on my radiator, (when dials on cold) but every time I try search for a solution on Google, nothing helps. I don't have a nut to tighten to stop leak, only at base of the pipes, and no coupling I don't think, I have nowhere I can tighten anything visibly, according to videos I keep seeing on Google, nothing shows my type of radiator valve/nuts/coupling, I think it's old as some of the furnishing in the house are, if anyone can help, where I can fix myself, I'd appreciate m,.I can upload pics if needed
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would need to see some pictures. As you'll probably know from the videos, a radiator valve usually has two nuts, one tightened onto the radiator tail and the other on the pipe which goes eventually to the boiler/heater/whatever heat source you have, and leaks on these are simple enough to fix. Could your leak possibly be on the radiator tail? In which case, the radiator (and maybe the whole system, depending on the system) might need draining to remove and fit again. But it would be best to ask a plumber if you're not confident with that. If you want to upload a photo I'll try and help some more.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your question.
In my experience with the leaking valves, the only one thing you can try, is to tighten little bit the ring around the valve.
But, my advice is if you don't have idea of what you doing, do not try to sort this by yourself and ask for certified plumber to attend, otherwise you can end flooding your flat and then this will be an emergency plumbing issue.
For any experienced plumber this will be a 30 min job and will not cost a fortune.
Good luck!
