Worcester Bosch boiler - bangs/thud noises

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

Hi, our boiler is located upstairs in a bedroom closet - we have noticed over the last couple of months loud bang/thud noises throughout the day/night - we’re not sure if it’s from the boiler or the pipes but believe more than likely the pipes. It doesn’t make any noises when we first turn on the heating in the morning, but as we keep the heat on all day, when the temperature drops from our setting we then start to hear the noises when it fires up again to get back to the temperature now and again. The heating itself is all fine as the radiators are hot, it’s just the noises are alarming us. As we still have plenty of guarantee left with Worcester Bosch, is this something we should be contacting them about or because it could be likely the pipes something that wouldn’t be covered by them? Or should we call an accredited Worcester Bosch engineer to have a look at our own expense? The system was treated with EP-100 last November when we changed some radiators. Thanks in advance for any advice and who to contact.

I would suggest you call a local Gas Safe registered engineer who specialises in boiler breakdowns/diagnostics to investigate, if there are issue(s) with the warranted boiler then he will advise you to contact W-B however if this issue is a system fault not directly related to the boiler installation he will advise accordingly, his time on site will of course attract a fee a small price to pay for peace of mind!

Hello, if it makes noises like this when at full temperature then I'd be thinking sludge related problems due to poor flush or no flush at the time the boiler was installed. If Worcester Bosch come out and find that the water is dirty or the boiler is sludged then the warranty is voided due to not being flushed properly in accordance with their installation instructions and they may charge you £90 upwards just for attending. As the other engineer says, you could get a local independent engineer out to assess/quote. A Powerflush or similar (proper) flush may also be a good idea before getting Worcester out. Just putting a chemical in, draining and then refilling with inhibitor is only suitable for very clean systems. Most others require a flush with flushing equipment. Hope this was helpful.

Hi I recommend to contact manufacturer (Worcester) about the noise it sounds like to me Could be faulty electrodes which they will replace for free and if it’s pipes at fault I recommend to contact a independent engineer then
