Bowed upvc window frame
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
Hi I have just had new upvc double glazed windows installed. I have noticed 4 of the windows have bowed in the middle of the frame. Why has this happened and do they taking out and replacing with new ones?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I’m guessing these are flat windows sited between brick and your house is old enough to not have lintels? Did you use a DCLG fitting company ( FENSA ETC); because if so they will be liable if they have not provided lintels. This is easily enforceable in law and it will be taken care of by the DCLG licensed entity.
If you went for an unregistered supplier then you will have a real problem and little redress. It can be sorted retrospectively by a builder who will provide the lintels whilst leaving your new windows in place.

Hello there, it could very well be that the sealed units and window frames were not packed out accordingly. I do not see any reason to replace windows for something so easy to put right.

Hi
If the windows are bowing in the centre of the frame then it could be no lintel present.
Get the company back to inspect and rectify.
If they refuse then proving they are a member of the following trade body
Assure Fensa Certass then you can call the relevant body they are a member of and get them to inspect the issue. If you phone them and explain then they will arrange an inspection. Then if it is the installers fault they will get the installer to rectify the problem.
I hope this helps.
