Plumbing shower to soil pipe on concrete floor
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
Hi Just need a little bit of advice so i can plan my new bathroom in my extension. Extension area surface will be: Block and beam floor. 70mm Celotex insulation board 65mm Screed 1) Do you cut out a channel in the screed for the shower waste trap and pipework? 2) Do you form a shuttering channel for the waste trap and pipework so screed can be formed around it? 3) another method? Any help, tips or further information will be much appreciated.

You need to get your first fix pipe work in first and work round that! Hot and cold water feed and your waste pipe.

Option three might be to get a shower tray riser kit, which would lift the tray up and bypass the need to cut into the screed or create a shutter. It might also make it easier to access the pipes later on, especially if you're putting tiles or vinyl down.

I would run hot and cold water pipes in the pipe insulation (15/13mm) even if it is plastic. Waste pipework 2" preferably (1 1/2" acceptable) for shower in "celotex" insulation too. Support pipe under by sand and cement mixture 5:1 (expansion foam - not recommended but quick) all way along. Shower trap could be tricky. Watch YouTube videos. Would recommend "magicflex" (solvent weld) for easy installation.
