Insulation

pir insulation onto of Polystyrene insulation

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

concrete slab was laid too deep and we need to raise the level by 200mm before the underfloor heating can be laid. Builder has suggested that he puts 50mm of Polystyrene slab insulation with a further 150mm of Celotex on top he's said that this should be better than laying another 100mm of concrete and then 100mm of pir insulation . Is this an acceptable remedy for the mistake or is the builder just try to save costs ?

Hi the Polystyrene slab reduce the effects of soil movement, decreases the amount of concrete required, and have thermal insular properties making them a cost effective component for any home, the 150mm of Celotex on top would improve the effectiveness of the Poly slabs. I personally don't see a problem, you can also ask your structural engineer for the structural integrity of the build. ( which should be fine ) Best of luck
