Windows & Door fitting

Double glazing unit frame and glass replaced, original units similar.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

Several complete glazed units replaced, one was noted to have a cracked glass after fitting. Is it not best practice, if not a requirement, to inspect glazed units for damage and/or defects before fitting the units, to avoid unneccessary conflict, and advise customer before fitting? Thankyou.

Full and final inspection should be made by the customer prior to final payment but it is good practice by the fitter to tell you he has broken a unit upon fitting.

Yes would make sense to have a look , but can break sometimes after glazing but not often, but company will replace the unit

Some companies would try and hide this to ensure payment. Not really knowing the full details of this, there are several answers. Installer may have fitted the glass unit and it cracked later due to pressure on the glass.

Any reputable installer would exchange any product that was defective.

If a unit vented (cracked) following a fit I had just completed, I would feel it my duty to replace it free of charge. In a new fit a unit can pinch on a setting block and crack shortly after fitting, again a free of charge replacement would be in order. The cost of a replacement unit in the overall fit is small compared to customer satisfaction.
