Which is easier/cheaper to lay : Mosiac Wood Floor OR Herringbone Wooden floor
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.17 PM
Hello, Trying to make a decision about which flooring option I should go with. Can anybody tell me the pros/cons to Mosiac Wood Flooring (also known as 5 finger parquet wood floor) OR Herringbone wooden floors? Thank you!

It’s not an easy question. Herringbone used to be solid individual blocks of wood stuck down then sanded and varnished but now you can engineered flooring that is much easier and quicker to fit, but will look like herringbone.
5 finger tends to be made in strips or large tiles so can be quicker to lay but is usually thinner, typically 8 x12 mm thick and in my opinion does not look as good when laid, buts that’s just my opinion. Either floor needs to be done by a competent floor laying company and won’t be a cheap option. Both floors also needs very good even subfloor.

Mosaic floor is easier to lay, but they come unfinished and need a sanding job and lacquer, hence they would cost more.
